Summary | The project aims to recognize the possibility of diversification and adaptation of the equipment on the fishing boat in terms of manipulation of the catch in order to increase the quality of the catch as well as the selection of fish, i.e. the possibility of separating immature and unwanted fish that have already been caught. The monitoring of fish behavior and their sampling will take place from the day of the catch until a few days after the catch. Determination of the genetic structure at the level of change of catch site. Numerical data collected through the catch and separation of immature fish will be processed using statistical methods to assess the variability of the population structure of the sardine and anchovy catch, as well as possible other types of small pelagic fish in the catch, the average condition and length-weight values of the caught populations by place and date, the determination of the catch by unit of effort, by determining the reference size points for the separation of unwanted fish in the catch. The data derived from the needs of the analyzes refer to the monitoring of the survival of the fish returned after selection in the experimental cage, as well as of its physical damage after separation and assessment of the possibility of survival. The fishing of small pelagic fish as well as the handling of the catch through the continuity of time at certain intervals received strong impulses in the changes of fishing methods, from catch to storage and processing. The traditional way of fishing with coastal trawl nets was replaced by fishing with boats with surrounding nets - purse seines, which brought about a kind of revolution in fishing, because from the static way of expecting larger vessels along the coasts as well as searching in narrow, limited places, we moved to more significant migrations in search of fish. With processing as well as more significant frameworks for direct consumption of fresh fish, the need to raise the quality of the catch is increasingly significant. Small pelagic fish is a valuable food source due to its high nutritional value and essential nutrients such as long-chain omega-3 fatty acids - docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), fat-soluble vitamins (E and D) and a proportion of highly valuable and easily digestible proteins. Omega-3 fatty acids are very sensitive to oxidation, which results in a loss of nutritional quality and the formation of oxidation products, which negatively affects consumer acceptance. Therefore, minimizing the oxidative deterioration of lipids during processing and storage is very important to deliver safe and healthy products. Damage to fish when caught with a seine net is a frequent occurrence, which can result in a faster pace of the oxidative process and thus a decline in the marketable quality of the fish. Discarding (unwanted and immature) fish remains one of the most important management issues in marine fisheries. It is considered a waste of resources that contributes to overfishing and uncertainty in stock estimates. |
